AWS and AT&T collaborate on Joint IoT-Networking Solutions

Amazon Web Services Inc. (AWS), has signed a deal to develop integrated Internet of Things and networking solutions for businesses.
The partnership was announced Thursday. It will see the companies work together on mobility, IoT and security solutions that are aimed towards their respective customers.
“We’re helping companies connect everything and any thing to the cloud,” stated Mo Katibeh (senior vice president of Advanced Solutions AT&T), in a prepared statement. “More importantly, this is done so it can be easy, scalable, and highly secure.”
The partnership will be centered around three areas from the beginning.
The two companies will first develop IoT-enabled AT&T devices using the AWS IoT platform. The AWS IoT platform was launched in late 2015. It provides developers and OEMs with a framework to connect devices to the cloud and build, deploy, and manage IoT apps.
Customers will have access to AT&T IoT Starter Kit as well as IoT-optimized data plan under the terms of the partnership.
Second, the companies will improve the integration between AWS cloud services and AT&T NetBond services. This allows organizations to securely access AWS or one of AT&T’s cloud partners without being exposed to public Internet.
AT&T announced that it will place emphasis on improving end-to-end customer visibility through more secure and high-performing network links, allowing faster and more automated decision making capabilities to the customer.
Third, AT&T will join forces with AWS to pool their security resources to support AT&T Threat Intellect, an AT&T security platform that uses machine-learning and data analytics to detect, prevent, and protect against network security threats.
Both companies stated that the partnership could expand to other areas in the future but did not elaborate.
Terry Wise, head AWS’ Worldwide Partner Ecosystem, stated that “Advanced connectivity is essential to enable our customers to get maximum value out of our services.” “We are excited about expanding our alliance with AT&T, and delivering new solutions to enable customers to accelerate the journey to AWS cloud.”
